 Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP)

What Is Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP)?

Blood is comprised of a liquid called Plasma. It also contains small cells (red cells, white cells, and platelets.) The platelets are best known for their importance in clotting blood. However, platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which are very important in the healing of injuries. PRP is plasma with concentrated platelets.

How Does PRP Work?

When your cells are injured, a series of peptides notify your brain of the damage. Proteins then remove the damaged cells, which trigger the fibroblast to make new collagen and allow the wound to heal.

Three signals must fire before fibroblast activation and healing begins. PRP is full of the MAP protein that triggers the removal of dead cells and begins healing and repairing the damaged ones. At the same time, your body is also producing collagen and elastin which are the building blocks of skin, muscles, ligaments, hair, and tendons.

What Can PRP Help With?

PRP  is a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment method for addressing multiple health and Esthetic concerns like:

  • Facial Rejuvenation
  • Hair Restoration

PRP is a natural alternative to synthetic fillers without the concern for allergic reactions. Platelets contain several growth factors that increase rebuilding of tissues over several months. When injected into the face, the growth factors in PRP stimulate new collagen and blood vessel formation.

  • New blood vessel formation improves the color and tone of the skin.
  • New collagen formation in the dermis lifts the face back to a more youthful shape.
  • The epidermis (outermost layers of your skin) appears smoother as the growth factors work to build up the dermis.
